Any business owner interested in entering the Food and Service Industry in San Fernando is required to obtain a food premises certification and food badges.

What are Food Badges and Schedule 1 Food Premises Certificates?

Food badges and Certification are necessary components to ensure public safety in the serving, storage, preparation and sale of food and drink for public consumption.

Why do I need a badge?

To ensure public safety and minimize to probability of the spread of food borne diseases, public health guidelines and training is provided to persons as part of the application process to obtain a food badge.

 

Where and when Can I Operate?

  • At locations designated by the San Fernando City Corporation.
  • Private Property and Commercial Lots with the permission of the owner in areas that allow vending.
  • A maximum of (X) hours a day

Any Citizens of legal working age can apply for a food badge.

Endorsements from the Immigration Division granting permission to work in Trinidad and Tobago MUST also be provided.

  1. A Medical Certificate not more than three (3) months from the date of issue.
  2. One (1) valid form of identification (Passport or Electoral Identification Card).
  3. Two (2) passport sized photos (White background, no glasses or head coverings except for religious and / or medical reasons)
  4. Forty Dollars ($40.00) processing fee.
  5. Compulsory attendance at Food Safety Lecture.

NOTE: ALL applications should indicate the food establishment by having a company stamp at the back of the medical certificate or provide a letter from same

Your Food Badge will expire on the the 31st of December every year.

You are required to reapply for your food badge at this time. 

  1. A food handlers badge will NOT be issued for unauthorized vending as same is prohibited.
  2. Persons vending in car parks and vacant lots are required to produce an original letter from the owner / agent, bearing the signature and / or stamp of the organization indicating annual permission to occupy and vend.
  3. Completed “OUT OF CITY” forms must be submitted by applicants preparing food outside of the City of San Fernando.
