“All pot sit on their own bottom”

A quick take on this local phrase would boil down to the following:

“Ultimately everyone is accountable for their own self and well being.”

With the San Fernando Waterfront slowly but surely chugging along, it is necessary for all citizens of San Fernando to pick a side: What will you be when the last bit of construction is done? A patron or an entrepreneur?

If you want to be a patron that’s fine come visit and enjoy. But this does not absolve you of the necessity of our input to actively take part in the surveys and consultations (yes even if there are more).

At the end of the day, we, the citizens of San Fernando will be the primary recipients of this national investment, so we shouldn’t we also exercise our right to be a part of its development?

Currently, the good folks at Udecott have been doing an excellent job in ensuring that public participation is a central pillar in the development of the master plan and we urge them to continue in this vein.

Now, if you choose to be an entrepreneur see the above suggestions and get ready for the extra: begin your planning NOW. Not when the construction is almost done, not when the ribbon cut and certainly not when it’s finished and there is a mad rush “to be a part of the thing”.

This is the next evolution of San Fernando into the Orange Economy: food, art, culture, tourism and other aspects of the service industry. PLAN PLAN and PLAN some more. Whether you starting a popcorn cart or a food truck or to establish a restaurant.

You want to rent paddle boats and jet skis or do fishing tours and site seeing into the Godineau Swamp? Start your plan NOW!

So you think you can entertain and dance? You fancy yourself an avid event planner like the song says: “Now is the time!” Your foundling idea knocking around in your nogging could be the start of something amazing, a new festival, synchronised drones over the water, Sport fishing competitions, Dragon Boat Festivals and so much more.

Have a savings plans, check NEDCO, look out for courses on business management online, register your company, streamline your vision and BE PREPARED.

After however long we as a city have waited on this it is finally here and coming along: slow, steady but sure. A little over a billion dollars is being invested in San Fernando, the least you can do is invest some time and money in yourself and the future of our city.

Don’t say “Nobody eh tell meh” or “Whe sah! Watch how that time creep up on meh”. And most certainly don’t get caught up in the political fray and ole talk from nay sayers who would have you believe that ALL that road paving and all that car park building and everything else that is yet to come is a figment of your imagination even as you drive down to the soon to be waterfront and seeing it for yourself daily.

You have a Looooonnggg lead time to think, revise, imagine and envision what your future business could be. When it’s all said and done at the end of the day, please remember:

Excellent idea in creating this website. It is timely,as so much activities are created and monitored on line. The job Bank is a great tool for both employers and prospective employees. The south have a lot of talent to offer also. Great initiative!

Most will see the development evolving in front of their eyes and doubt it is actually happening. What will make others hedge their opportunities and invest in preparing for the options presented by this development? Already significant infrastructural upgrades have happened…more will follow as the reclaimation contract falls into place…the carpark is now open. We need to take ownership of this part of the history of San Fernando and embrance the ‘Change’. This open forum for ideas and opinions is a good start…but more specialized technical teams need to be put in place for the full conept of the ‘Waterfront’ to become fully realized. As a person who continues to be ask the question: What can ‘We’ become? The answer is always: …Better than we were…yesterday!
